No. 1
Community Engagement
Active and informed citizens have the capacity to provide critical feedback, participate, and conclusively, influence the very processes that have harmed them. Outreach & involvement of communities in any endeavor is crucial, especially in those that are underrepresented & minoritized.

No. 2
Equity & Belonging
The concepts of equity, belonging, and anti-racism have been in practice and at the core of my identity long before I knew their definitions. This work and these perspectives are rooted in authenticity and awareness. Equity & belonging should not be an afterthought or simply a factor to consider, but rather a guiding principle in all initiatives.

Placemaking & Urbanism
The built environment should be a co-created space envisioned with individuals of all intersections in mind. Placemaking is a key part of this urbanist movement, bringing people together to reimagine and reinvent public spaces and places as the heart of their communities. Placemaking provides a pathway for communities to strengthen connection to place and “shift otherwise oppressive geographies of a city to provide sites of play, pleasure, celebration, and politic” (Black Placemaking: Celebration, Play, and Poetry. Theory, Culture & Society)

About MeHi, I'm Julia (she/her)! I’m a graduate of the University of Washington in Community, Environment & Planning (B.A.) and in Social & Cultural Communication (B.A.) with a minor in Diversity Studies. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, I’ve become highly aware of the range of detrimental impacts that rapid development poses on underrepresented communities and the surrounding environment. This experience among others led me to pursue my degrees to address issues of injustice in both built and natural environments, and work towards an equitably sustainable future that centers people in governance and development processes. My intersections inform my perspective as I navigate space and advocate for equity; my career path in uplifting and empowering underrepresented groups has been and will continue to be rooted in deep understanding of place, values and history to ensure awareness and reciprocity. I'm forward thinking, strategic in my planning, collaborative in my approach, and adore building and being a part of communities. I hope to continue making the most of what life has to offer by seeking opportunities that contribute to community, collaborate with others, and further my growth.
